Teamworks

 U-turn, Cape Town

“U-turn has been on a rapid growth curve for the past two or three years and started 2023 three times the size we had been two years earlier. All this growth was exciting, but immensely challenging: more than half our staff had joined in the past year and lots of training was still needed; structures and systems needed to change constantly to keep up with the growth; and we knew we needed help to keep everything moving forward smoothly.

At just at the right time Teamworks came onto our radar. We made contact with Ian and Rosie, and planned a month long consultation process in early 2023. Our hope was that they would work with us to leverage strengths, seize opportunities, help us to improve in areas of weakness and plan appropriately for risks. An important part of this process was leadership training and coaching, as many of the emerging leaders in the organisation had had little past experience in leadership.

We were not disappointed in any way with any part of the process. Ian and Rosie are incredibly warm, professional and sensitive. Their observations and recommendations showed profound leadership insight and experience. Yet, despite their obvious expertise, they came in as students of the organisation and held off with making recommendations until they had thoroughly understood our business and the dynamics within our teams. This was deeply appreciated—especially in an environment that is particularly nuanced and complex, and into which most “consultants” seem to step with a sense of arrogant presupposition.

Our staff and management team enjoyed them immensely. Their humour, humility and practical insights created a very engaging environment. Everyone walked away from the two-day leadership training feeling more confident in their own leadership, and equipped with practical skills to manage their teams better. We have lots to homework to do over the next few months, and look forward to working with Ian and Rosie again in the near future.”
